Tell me about Cabana Talks?
Cabana Talks is a telephone therapy (counselling) service of the Gender Dreamz Initiative. We want Nigerians to have easy and affordable access to psychologists (referred to as counsellors) without fear of stigmatization.
Who are your counsellors?
Our counsellors are professionals with excellent practice track records and a minimum Master’s Degree qualification. Meet our counsellors here.
Why do I need Cabana Talks when I don't have mental health issues?
Yes, Cabana Talks provides counselling services to people with mental health, but we also offer other counselling services. Psychology and counselling support every aspect of our lives; therefore, it is for everyone seeking to improve the quality of their life. Whenever there is anything that interferes with your happiness or prevents you from achieving your goals, we may be able to help. We have counsellors who specialize in education, self-esteem, stress, anxiety, relationships, marriage, parenting, depression, addictions, trauma, anger, grief, career, and religion, to mention a few.
Who can use Cabana Talks?
Cabana Talks can be used by anybody who has a phone (even if it is a dummy phone), but MUST BE of the legal age of 18 years and above. Those below the age of 18 years must have their session booked by their parents or guardian and be supervised during the session. You also CAN NOT use our services if you are in an urgent or emergency situation.
How do I book sessions?
Booking for a session on Cabana Talks is so simple. Pick up your phone, dial 013106111 and follow the IVR prompts to fill out your simple IVR form. Once you are done, our IVR Application will send you a Paystack payment link; make your payment using the link, and our system will automatically initiate a conference call with your preferred counsellor at the time specified in your booking.
How much do you charge?
Cabana Talks Charges per session of 40 minutes. Each session is priced at N8,000. First, you choose the number of sessions you want, and you may be advised by a counsellor to get additional sessions.
It is important we mention that our service is 10x cheaper to a conventional face-to-face counselling. Our goal is to provide quality, affordable and easily accesible service to Nigerians.
How do I make payment for sessions?
Upon successful completion of your booking, a Paystack payment link will be sent to you by SMS or on WhatsApp. Click on the link, and it will take you to a secure Paystack payment page where you can pay with your debit card, credit card, or many other options available on Paystack.
Can I get a refund if I choose to cancel a booked session?
We do not refund for booked sessions. You may, however, postpone your session to a specific date or indefinitely by calling our live booking line and following the IVR prompt.
Can Cabana Talks replace traditional face-to-face counselling?
No.
Although our counsellors are well-seasoned professionals who are also experienced in their various face-to-face practice, while teletherapy may have similar benefits and has been confirmed by studies to be very efficient in making life changes, it’s not capable of replacing the traditional face-to-face therapy in every case. Our counsellors will schedule you for a face-to-face session if your case requires it.
What is the mode of communication with the counsellors?
Our mode of communication is speaking over the telephone.
Another mode of communication will be added in the near future, and we will inform our users as we add a new communication channel.
Is Cabana Talks service affordable?
Yes. Our service is very affordable. It is charged per 40minute session. At N8,000 per session, our rate is cost based and one of the most competitive rates for both online and face-to-face counselling.
Our rate is 50% to 80% cheaper when compared to what Psychologist in Nigeria charge for face-to-face therapy. It is also important to note that telephone therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy in 95% of cases. Our pricing is to ensure more people access emotional care.
How do Cabana Talks live phone sessions work?
Our Phone sessions are a very convenient way to access our therapy service by simply using your landline or mobile phone, irrespective of where you are.
You call our line 013106111. to book your sessions and indicate the time you want the sessions as part of your IVR form submission. At your specified time, our IVR Application will initiate a conference call between you and the counsellor that fits your case or your chosen counsellor.
You can choose a counsellor by inputting the code on their profile while booking your sessions.
Is there a limit to how I use Cabana Talks?
There are no limits to your use of cabana Talks. Your needs determine your usage and this differs from one person to another. While you feel you need few sessions to resolve your issues, other people may prefer to keep booking new sessions and getting value from our service for an extended period of time.
Sometimes, our counsellors may also advise you to get more sessions to resolve your challenges.
Can I get reimbursed by my health insurance company?
Not at the moment.
We do not have any partnership with any health insurance company at the moment; however, we will inform our users as soon as we partner with any health insurance company.
We offer affordable pricing options for insurance companies willing to partner with us. This is the same package we offer corporate entities mindful of their workforce’s emotional wellbeing.
Is Cabana Talks counselling available In Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba?
Yes. When booking for your sessions kindly indicate your Counsellor preference and your counsellor of choice will be assign to you. For example, you can indicate “Female Hausa speaking Muslim” and a counsellor that meet this description will be assign to you.
Kindly Note that Cabana Talks is at it’s early stage, we hope to grow our counsellor database to meet all your requirements. At this moment we only have Igbo and Yoruba speaking counsellors.
We are open to work with Hausa speaking Counsellors with a minimum qualification of Masters degree.
Is it possible for me to stay anonymous?
Yes. You can stay 100% anonymous.
When you book your sessions, we make the name input optional, and you may input your nickname for purpose of system identification and interaction with counsellor.
While we also request for a telephone number you wish to receive our counselling, kindly be rest assured that these phone numbers will be stored safely on our system.
Please take note that these phone number(s) may however be used if our counsellor has a reason to believe you or someone else might be in danger or when we are required by a legal authority to do so. Please read our terms and conditions for more clarity.
How is my privacy protected?
Your privacy and confidentiality are the bedrock of the service we provide. Our solution is to build AWS, a trusted and well-secured infrastructure to protect your privacy and safeguard the information you have provided. For more assurance of your privacy and confidentiality, here are a few more reasons you should assure;
- For corporate packages, we do not share your information with your company or health insurance unless you give us written authorization. Even at that only minimal information will be shared.
- Everything you tell your counsellor is highly confidential.
- All communication with your counsellor is secured and encrypted on our end.
- Our browsing encryption system (SSL) is designed to meet modern and best global practices; your browsing of our website is therefore secured, except you allow other people access to your uncleared browser history on your device’s website. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.
Please send your authorization email to authorization@cabanatalks.ng, if you wish to share any of your information or records with a third party. Do not forget to include the email of the receiving party.
What if I insist on having face-to-face counselling?
We offer face-to-face counselling in unique cases, but only to about 5% of our clients. We advise our clients to start by booking an online session, our assigned counsellor will assess you and refer you to one of our most proximate Psychologist that is best fit for your case.
How can I ensure this is effective and can help me with my issues?
Telephone counselling offers the same services as face-to-face counselling, except that it is conducted over the phone. This medium was used for crisis intervention; however, in recent times, there seems to be a much greater openness to this form of counselling, even in noncrisis situations. Although face-to-face counselling remains the more popular form, telephone counselling offers certain advantages that can make it a more suitable option for some.
Studies have shown that telephone therapies are very effective, beneficial and satisfactory at improving specific issues that lead to counselling and a global improvement in people’s emotional state.
Most people find teletherapy to be more convenient, more accessible, and less expensive than in-person therapy.
